1/20/10 Please consider giving him a good home. This is the type of dog that will and continues to adjust and will love his family forever. If you can put in a little of your time and show him you love him, he will give you a lifetime of companionship and love.
ANOTHER UPDATE FROM HIS FOSTER MOM: He is walking thru the neighborhood every am encountering school buses, kids running, strange noises and is doing very well and not slouching.  (We walk a mile or so before I go to work)  He took a treat from my husband for the first time yesterday.  He is responding very well, with the simple correction of a stern NO.   Best point of progress (he can now eat with the other dogs (all 5) without gulping his food down and running to the other dogs bowls.  Even when he was eating separately he was still swallowing his food whole!)  I used to separate him, because he was frantic at feeding time,  but over time he now realizes that no one will be taking his food from him. He is doing well!

1/12/10 Bentley with his spectacular ears, has told us he is picking up on your whispers and wants us to tell you that, YES he is adorable and waiting for his new forever home.
Update from his foster mom: Bentley is still his adorable self and loves to cuddle with his foster family.  He seems to get along with everyone once he has met you.  He is quiet, not a barker, at all.  He has a lot of doggy friends and enjoys playing with them.  Loves to go for rides in the car and walks really, really nice on the leash.  His new foster mom has been spending time with him and reports that he would be wonderful for an elderly couple or a family with teen age children.  Small children are too fast and loud and may initially scare Bentley.  He does get scared when hearing an unexpected loud noise but his doing much better. As he gets more familiar with his new home and knows he is loved, he will settle down even more.  He will need a yard with a physical fence or on-leash outside only - no invisible fence.  This little doll would be great for a townhouse and/or single home owner. He wouldn't mind a companion dog but would still be as happy as punch with owners that just wanted to shower only him, with their love.  Bentley loves to sleep in the bed and cuddle up to keep you warm! He is also housebroken and learns commands fast. If you love small dogs, he would be the perfect match for you. Under that shy and quiet exterior is a bundle of expressive love, just waiting for his forever family to shower it upon.

11/29/09 Bentley is a sweet little 20 pound beagle/rat terrier mix with adorably huge ears.  He likes other dogs, kids, and adults but is still nervous with new people and situations.  He loves being outdoors to run and play and nap in the sun in the yard. He is making progress with walking on a leash but can get spooked at unexpected sounds or people approaching. He should be in a cat-less home or only with VERY dog-savvy cats because of the mixed breed his is. He may have a "prey drive" that is not safe for smaller yard animals and since cats are fast, can be smaller, etc. this breed of dog, may see a cat in this category.
